Here's how you fix the incompetence in Customs and Border Patrol and TSA.....
Every elected official and appointed Government employee, including all the way up to cabinet secretaries, must fly commercial airlines and be forced to enjoy the fun airline travel has to offer. They get no chartered flights, must go through normal TSA, and when traveling internationally must experience the lines at passport and customs control.
Just imagine how quickly things would get fixed!
This blog chronicles our 11 day journey through Scotland to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We will visit in late June 2016. If you know us, you will know the exact dates. If you don't, it doesn't really matter, does it? We hope you electronically enjoy what we are experiencing in real-time. While we will try to keep things updated, just remember that having fun, eating and/or drinking will always take precedence over blogging.

One Final Post to Vent!!!!!
I hate the government and especially the Department of Homeland Security. I'm sure someone in Washington is monitoring this, but I'm just venting, so chill out.
Let's start with Customs and Border Control. We were almost pleased with the arrival process. Looked like it was going to take forever, but they have a new kiosk system for declarations. Surprisingly efficient, only about 15 mins and we are waiting for luggage (I know, what are we doing checking luggage?). Took only about 7 mins and off we go to customs clearance.
I CAN'T YELL LOUD ENOUGH ABOUT HOW F;$&Cked up that is. Over an hour just for an overpaid government worker to take a piece of paper and let us pass. Lines wrapping everywhere. And only two incompetent workers. Can't image if there were more.
Now on to TSA.
As you know, many times you need to go through TSA screening again after clearing customs. I think it sux. If I'm good enough to fly across the water, why can't I continue on? Bob Roalef will explain, but in my words, incompetence. First we encounter the 21st century version of Hitler checking boarding passes and Ids. Heaven forbid if you were 2 inches too close. Then it is someone who seems to be auditioning for Comedy Central. If he worked half as hard getting people screened, 3x more people would get through. I know it doesn't sound like much, but another 45 mins later we are through. For no apparent value add.
I know a sure fire way to fix this incompetent use of our tax dollars. But that's for another post.

Final Full Day
We leave Oban today for two more castles on our way to Edinburgh; Doune and Sterling. Spend the night in Edinburgh then become friends again with Delta tomorrow.
Great trip with only one major mistake. I bought two bottles of Scotch. Now we need to check luggage. 😂

View from our room in Oban
We started the day visiting Nessie, then Urquhart Castle. Spent the afternoon on a scenic drive along Loch Ness to our final destination of Oban. This view is from our room.

Whodda Thunk It
I've been drinking Glenmorangie Scotch for 20 years. Now I know how to pronounce it.
I've been saying Glen-mur-angie.
The proper way is Glen-morange(like orange) ah.
Oh well, still good whiskey.

Scotch, of course
Barrels at Dewars. I know, a blend you say. And you are correct; yuck. However, we are at the original Aberfeldy distillery, and they make a great Single Malt.
Check the picture link above. Items are uploading as I blog😆

Bob Marley-mun
Even the monks at Melrose Abbey must have liked Bob Marley. Come on, you see the resemblance.

Well....
Trip started off great, no packing issues, etc. Swung by Traci's house to pick her up, no problem. Get almost to 270 in Columbus, huge backup, traffic stopped, major accident. No worries, we have plenty of time. Get to airport, still plenty of time. Actually, lots of time. Flight already delayed over an hour. We have 3.5 hour layover in JFK, so still no problem.
More time to drink here. They say don't drink when flying, so we're doing it here.
Way to go Pound Sterling
I don't wish them any ill will, but gonna love the exchange rate.
The pound is getting crushed.

Starting to Think About the Weather
Just looked at the long range forecast. Seems like the temps in Edinburgh will be in the mid to upper teens (15°C to 17°C). That's about 62°F on the high end. One would expect even cooler temps as we head north. Actually, I just checked and it is about the same.
Nonetheless, we need to pack accordingly. No shorts (don't usually do that in Europe anyway). Probably need to prepare for some falling precipitation as well.
Just over four days until departure. I better email the distilleries.
